Approved to ISO 9001:2008 Neal Brothers design team ensure that all packs are designed with cost effective performance in mind. Drop testing, vibration, temperature or humidity testing are regularly performed at recognised test centres. The most common test of packaging suitability – particularly for large, heavy, sensitive or expensive products – is the drop test.

The effectiveness of the packaging design in protecting your product during transit and handling can be established by a series of tests.

The effectiveness of the packaging design in protecting your product during transit and handling can be established by a series of tests.

Environmental testing, can be carried our a recognised test centres as required. Often rain tests are simulated to ensure the product can be kept dry during transit. Extreme weather or transit conditions can be simulated such as extreme heat, cold or humidity.

Neal Brothers have successfully designed and tested packs to withstand temperatures as low as minus 40deg C or as high as 70 deg C in 90% relative humidity conditions. Neal Brothers have pioneered the use of vacuum packs using barrier foils to eliminate corrosion during the transit and storage.

Drop Testing

The effectiveness of the packaging design in protecting your product during transit and handling can be established by a series of tests.

The effectiveness of the packaging design in protecting your product during transit and handling can be established by a series of tests.

Drop testing, can be carried out in-house by our own design engineers. This will establish whether the pack can withstand a series of drops during transit or handling.

The testing may be needed to establish how fragile the product is in the first place or what are inherent weak points.

Typically a pack which can be carried by 1 man will be drop tested from a 1 metre drop height. Whereas a pack designed to be lifted by forklift may only be tested from 20 or 30cms.

The purpose of the testing is to establish the effectiveness of cushioning in the pack in restricting the impact of the drop or series of drops on the product to a given fragility and thereby ensuring that the product is not damaged.

Shock tests, vibration tests and environmental tests can be carried our at recognised test centres as required.

Shock Tests

The effectiveness of the packaging design in protecting your product during transit and handling can be established by a series of tests.

The effectiveness of the packaging design in protecting your product during transit and handling can be established by a series of tests.

Shock testing is often carried out in order to simulate rough overland haulage.

Neal Brothers have successfully carried out a number of shock tests replicating up to 1000 bumps of varying shock intensity or G factors.

The results are captured by placing sensors at appropriate points on the product and are analysed by shock test software.

The resulting sine waves reflect the effectiveness of the cushioning within the pack in reducing excessive transmission of energy to the product, thereby eliminating damage.

Vibration Testing

The effectiveness of the packaging design in protecting your product during transit and handling can be established by a series of tests.

Vibration testing is often carried out in order to simulate vibration during various transit conditions, by road, sea or air.

Vibration is a complex subject, modes of transport have different natural frequencies which if similar to that of the product can cause serious damage.

Neal Brothers have successfully carried out a number of vibration tests at recognised test centres in order to prove the effectiveness of a pack design.

Good packaging design can use cushioning effectively to “dampen” the external vibration and avoid product damage.

Test results are again captured by placing sensors at appropriate points on the product and are analysed by vibration test software.

The resulting sine waves reflect the effectiveness of the cushioning within the pack in reducing excessive transmission of energy to the product, thereby eliminating damage.
